Developing Trainers

When I attended my very first training course, back in the mid ’80’s (ouch!), I remember being fascinated at how much the trainers achieved with each of us, in terms of both personal and skills development. It was my first “I really wish I could do that!” moment. One year later, I started my training as a trainer and have continued with my personal and career development to the present day.

Over the years, I’ve experienced some fantastic training and lousy training; trainers who are truly focused on their learners and trainers who are simply on a personal power trip. The impact of both good – and bad –trainers can be immense, both individually and organisationally.

With this in mind, I’ve put together and delivered all sorts of trainer development packages, including Design Skills for Trainers, Internal Consultancy Skills, Accelerated Learning for Trainers, Delivering Successful Training Sessions, Getting more from your Training Evaluation.

Important News for all Learning and Development Professionals

This year, I’m pleased to have been asked by The Learning Sanctuary to become their Progamme Director for the Advanced Certificate in Training and Occupational Learning (AdCITOL).  The Learning Sanctuary is a UK-based provider of qualifications and master classes for everyone involved in learning and training, from those about to deliver a training session for the first time, all the way through to senior executives responsible for the overall effectiveness of learning in an organisation.  Working exclusively and in partnership with ITOL (Institute of Training and Occupational Learning), The Learning Sanctuary provide a wide range of accredited qualifications, specifically designed for our needs.

As Programme Director for the AdCITOL qualification, I have designed and am delivering a programme that I’m really excited about.  I believe it’s just the thing for learning and development practitioners who wish to develop specialist skills, or increase their credibility and professionalism in a competitive market place.

For more information about the full range of qualification programmes and master classes we are offering throughout the U.K. this year, take a look at The Learning Sanctuary’s website.

In 2002, I indulged my love of trainer development, by designing and launching Trainer Routes®. This set of questions and activities is now being used by both individual Trainers as a CPD aid and by Training Managers as an ideal coaching tool, within a wide range of private, public and voluntary organisations.  Go to http://www.trainer-routes.com  if you’d like to read more about this.

Also, why not try my trainer’s 3-minute health check questionnaire, to see whether you might benefit from any of my train the trainer solutions? You can get to the questionnaire by clicking on the link to ‘useful stuff’.
