Developing Managers

One day you become really successful and confident at what you do – so you’re promoted to a management role. Suddenly it’s a whole new ball game; you’re now expected to achieve through others, and they just don’t do what you want them to! You’re too busy to take time out for training, though – perhaps next quarter. And before you know it, you’ve been a manager for more years than you care to remember and have found your way around all those new requirements: Team meetings, appraisals, training and coaching sessions, important presentations, recruitment and selection interviews, counselling, managing performance.

I’ve found that doing something as simple as giving managers an opportunity to stop what they’re doing, reflect on how successfully they are doing it, then introducing them to ways of doing things slightly differently, gets some surprising results. Better staff retention, less disciplinary issues, improved team spirit, higher sales figures, fewer customer complaints … all through improved management skills.

What options are there for management development? I can provide focused, one-to-one coaching sessions, small group development workshops, large management team programmes – I’ll design a solution that will best meet both organisational and individual needs.

“Angela’s style was excellent. She adapted the course to what people wanted and made sure that everyone was able to contribute in their own way. It has given me the motivation to put what I have learnt into practise and to learn more. I now see managing as an important part of my role and can see the benefits of doing it effectively”
From a Manager attending a “Fundamentals of People Management” course for Abbey National, November 2005.
